Fun, very cool CD from a local band. Great to listen to live in Austin. Lone Star Swing, from Austin, Texas, plays an energetic blend of western swing, jazz, and traditional country music that will have you tapping your toes and twirling around the dance floor. The band includes an all-star lineup of musicians who have performed throughout North America and Europe with some of the biggest names in music.


The Players

Rick McRae (guitar and vocals). This San Antonio native took up the guitar at age 16. Rick has been the famously-hot lead guitarist in George Strait’s Ace in the Hole Band for the last 27 years and has been inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame. Don’t tell anyone but he’s a great fiddler too.

Terry Hale (bass) has performed everywhere from New York’s Madison Square Garden to the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles, on television shows from Austin City Limits to the BBC. As an original founding member of the Ace in the Hole Band Terry has been supplying the groove for MCA recording artist George Strait for the last thirty-seven years with whom he has appeared on numerous gold and multi-platinum selling albums, and two major motion pictures. He has also performed on many television and radio commercials, videos, radio broadcasts, The Tonight Show and many music awards shows. 

Paul Glasse (mandolin and vocals) is a former National Mandolin Champion -- known to audiences as a composer, arranger, bandleader, featured recording artist and in-demand accompanist. Along the way he's performed or recorded with artists such as: Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Asleep at the Wheel, Kelly Willis, Joe Ely, Shawn Colvin, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Gene Ramey and many of the legends of western swing. He is the only mandolinist in the world to have studied privately with each of the first-generation swing mandolin greats: Tiny Moore, Johnny Gimble and Jethro Burns. Paul is an inductee into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame.

Billy Curtis (fiddle, saxophone, and vocals) played for years with Houston’s popular Wild River Band, as well as with western swing legends Johnny Gimble and Herb Remington. 

Gary Hartman (rhythm guitar and vocals) has performed throughout the United States and Europe, sharing the stage with such popular artists as Johnny Rodriguez, Stoney LaRue, Herb Remington, and Johnny Gimble.In his other life he is the founding director of the Center for Texas Music History at Texas State University and the author of The History of Texas Music.
